Effective library catalog searches use the best keywords and subject headings for the topic at hand. For topics related to race and ethnicity, it may be necessary to think about how a population has been described in the past in order to come up with a complete list of effective search terms. Below are some recommendations.

    • Latino American Experience

      Indexes articles on all topics of history in the United States and Canada. Serves as a useful tool to find research related to ethnicity and race in US and Canadian history.
    • PAIS
      Index to books, articles, conference proceedings, government documents, book chapters and statistical directories about public affairs. Coverage starts in 1972.
    • Sociological Abstracts
